Wittenberg University Athletics is celebrating the Senior classes from each of the fall sports programs that missed out on their Senior Day experience. Today we highlight the final six members of the Wittenberg football team and hear about what they loved most about being a Wittenberg Tiger and more.

Hometown: Portsmouth, Ohio

 

What is your favorite memory from being a student-athlete at Wittenberg?

Beating Denison at their place in 4 overtimes.

 

What do you love most about being a Wittenberg Tiger?

Being a part of the Wittenberg community.

 

Outside of Athletics, who is the one campus staff or faculty member that had the most impact on you during your time at Wittenberg?

Kevin Steidel has given me guidance throughout the last 4 years and has helped me become a better student.

 

What is one piece of advice you would like to leave for the underclassmen or any recruits looking to become a part of your team in the future?

School first then Football.

After graduation, how will you embrace the school's motto "Having Light, We Pass it on to Others"?

To use the life skills I learned from Witt every day and use them to help others.

What is your favorite memory from being a student-athlete at Wittenberg?

Last season, Beating Ohio Wesleyan to clinch our 4th straight conference championship.

 

What do you love most about being a Wittenberg Tiger?

Constantly being surrounded by hard-working and talented people.

 

Outside of Athletics, who is the one campus staff or faculty member that had the most impact on you during your time at Wittenberg?

Dr. Ross Jackson. He always gave great perspectives of life and motivated all of his students to pursue their true interests.

 

What is one piece of advice you would like to leave for the underclassmen or any recruits looking to become a part of your team in the future?

There will be a lot of ups and downs but keep your mind on the bigger picture. Grind out the bad times and soak up the good times.

What is your favorite memory from being a student-athlete at Wittenberg?

The bond I have made with my brothers on and off the football field.

 

What do you love most about being a Wittenberg Tiger?

The pride of being a Tiger.

 

Outside of Athletics, who is the one campus staff or faculty member that had the most impact on you during your time at Wittenberg?

Bob Davis was a huge part of my time here at Wittenberg. Helped me start the Wittenberg wrestling club and chase after my goals.

 

What is one piece of advice you would like to leave for the underclassmen or any recruits looking to become a part of your team in the future?

Don't be afraid to win. You have to outwork everyone around you if you want to be great.

By heading to medical school to share what I've learned in my time here.

 

David Span

Hometown: Orlando, Florida

 

What is your favorite memory from being a student-athlete at Wittenberg?

Winning the team's 3rd consecutive conference ring. I choose that memory because I remember those final moments of anxiety about if we tied for the ring or not. But when we did, it was one of the best feelings I've come to remember as a Wittenberg Tiger.

 

What do you love most about being a Wittenberg Tiger?

The community environment and the lifelong friendships that were made in the process. 

 

Outside of Athletics, who is the one campus staff or faculty member that had the most impact on you during your time at Wittenberg?

Jon Duraj, I mean what else can I say he's been there for me since freshman year supporting academically and any way he can. He's truly one of the most resourceful faculty members on campus and if it wasn't for him working with my advisors I'm not sure I'd be where I'm at now.

 

What is one piece of advice you would like to leave for the underclassmen or any recruits looking to become a part of your team in the future?

Never quit or doubt yourself in taking part in anything in life. Times will be hard, but the end goal is far greater than the bumps in the road. 

 

Why should a High School Prospect choose Wittenberg?

For one, the excellent business programs as well as a lifetime of tradition and the endless friendships that can manifest.

 

After graduation, how will you embrace the school's motto "Having Light, We Pass it on to Others"?

Applying "my light" to life, in the people I may meet in the future, and/or people who are involved in my life.

 

Grant Sparks

Hometown: Portsmouth, Ohio

 

What is your favorite memory from being a student-athlete at Wittenberg?

Winning in 4 overtimes at Denison. There was no better feeling after winning that game.

 

What do you love most about being a Wittenberg Tiger?

The standard we go by.

 

Outside of Athletics, who is the one campus staff or faculty member that had the most impact on you during your time at Wittenberg?

Miss Patty. She would always know how to put a smile on your face.

 

What is one piece of advice you would like to leave for the underclassmen or any recruits looking to become a part of your team in the future?

Buy into the program and keep the Wittenberg standard high.

 

Why should a High School Prospect choose Wittenberg?

The great facilities and coaches that connect with you. The professors also are some of the best in the state and they care about you as a person.

 

After graduation, how will you embrace the school's motto "Having Light, We Pass it on to Others"?

By teaching others the values and principles that I learned in athletics and through my education at Witt.

What is your favorite memory from being a student-athlete at Wittenberg?

Getting to compete in the NCAA playoffs.

 

What do you love most about being a Wittenberg Tiger?

Being able to compete for the Wittenberg community.

 

Outside of Athletics, who is the one campus staff or faculty member that had the most impact on you during your time at Wittenberg?

Grace, has been a huge help with my academics and making sure I am on top of everything.

 

What is one piece of advice you would like to leave for the underclassmen or any recruits looking to become a part of your team in the future?

See it through, it's going to be tough, but when your winning on Saturdays it will be all worth it.
