Tigers Take Down Oberlin Under The Lights

Springfield, OH – The Wittenberg University football team got back to their winning way, taking down the Oberlin College Yeomen 35-21 under the lights from Edwards-Maurer Field. The Tiger offense unleashed for 358 yards, accumulating 22 first downs on the night. Wittenberg took a 21-7 advantage over the Yeomen into the half, as the Tiger's wasted no time getting the offense going. Quarterback Bobby Froehlich completed 19 of 26 passes on the night for 249 yards and three touchdowns. Tavian Crowe logged 10 tackles for the Tiger defensive front (four solo). Micah Vann tallied two sacks taking the Yeomen back for a loss of 15-yards on the night.

Game Breakdown

The Tiger offense took their first possession all the way down the field, finishing the drive with a four-yard Sam Kayser rushing touchdown to put Wittenberg on the board. After a Froehlich quarterback keeper put Wittenberg ahead 14-7. Froehlich would later find Jake Saus in the back of the Oberlin endzone at the end of the second quarter to put the Red and White ahead 21-7 heading into the half. DeShawn Sarley broke free in the second half, catching a Froehlich pass and crossing midfield and taking it in for the Tiger score. Erik Anderson caught his first pass in the fourth quarter, putting two feet in the Oberlin endzone on an 11-yard touchdown reception, putting Wittenberg ahead 35-21. Froehlich targeted seven Wittenberg receivers on the night, with Saus and Kayser reeling in five receptions each.

The Tiger defense held Oberlin to just 270 yards of total offense on the night, while Troy Jones took an interception back for 19-yards. Six Tigers were all included on a tackle for a loss on the day, with Trevor Good adding eight tackles up front Jonathan Seay recording six tackles (four solo).

Wittenberg will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 9 traveling to Gambier, OH to take on the Lords of Kenyon College in an NCAC showdown. Kickoff is set for noon.
