Springfield, Ohio – It was a tight battle at Edwards-Maurer Field between the No. 8 Wittenberg Tigers and North Coast Atlantic Conference foe, the DePauw University Tigers. Wittenberg held off the visiting Tigers of DePauw for the 38-23 win, as it is the first time Wittenberg has been held to under 40 points so far this season. Wittenberg accumulated 475 total yards of offense, picking up 23 first downs along the way. Wittenberg remains unbeaten on the year at 7-0 and 6-0 in NCAC action.

How It Happened:

It was a low-scoring affair to start out, as a 41-yard Adam Acquista field goal would be the only points scored through the first quarter. After the Tigers of DePauw responded with a 33-yard field goal of their own. Wittenberg took the 10-7 advantage after Jake Kennedy found Thad Snodgrass on the 26-yard touchdown reception. DePauw took one more chance at chipping away at the Wittenberg lead with a 24-yard field goal with four seconds before the half expired. After Wittenberg elected to receive the kick in the second half, Troy Clay opened the Tiger's scoring effort coming out of the break with a two-yard touchdown run and extending the lead out to 17-6. Holding DePauw to their third field goal of the game to open the second half, Wittenberg closed out the third quarter by capitalizing on the misdirection, as Jeff Tiffner would complete the 14-yard touchdown pass to Kennedy for the Tiger score, taking the lead up to 24-9. The two sides would match each other score for score in the fourth quarter, starting with a four-yard Jaheem Washington touchdown run for Wittenberg. After DePauw reeled in a 22-yard touchdown pass with just over 11-minutes remaining in the game, Tiffner hauled in his own deep pass of his own, completing the play for the final Wittenberg score.

Who Stood Out:

A pair of Tigers would finish the game with a passing touchdown and a receiving touchdown, as Wittenberg continued to spread the wealth around the offense. Kennedy accounted for 336 of the total passing yards, completing 22 of 38 passes with two touchdowns. Tiffner would complete his afternoon, receiving and throwing a touchdown for the red and white. The Springfield native, racked up 116 yards on six targets, reeling in a 74-yard long. Clay finished as the leading Wittenberg rusher, racking up 60-yards on 14 carries. Snodgrass recorded 53 yards through the air, including his 26-yard long touchdown score. Troy Jones and Jordan Burkey led the Wittenberg defense with eight tackles each. Burkey would provide a tackle for a loss and a fumble recovery for the red and white.

Wittenberg will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 27 to celebrate Senior Day when they host NCAC rival Wabash at 1:00 PM from Edwards-Maurer Field.
