No. 9 Tigers Roll Over Gators

Meadville, Pa. – The No. 9 Wittenberg University football team rolled over the Gators of Allegheny College 41-14 on Saturday afternoon. This win took the Tigers to 6-0 on the season while they keep a spotless record in NCAC action, moving to 5-0 in conference play. It was a tight battle between the two sides through the first half, as the Tigers jumped out to a quick 10-7 advantage. Wittenberg would keep the Gators off the board coming out of the break, allowing only one Allegheny score through the final 30-minutes coming with just over six minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.  

HOW IT HAPPENED:

It was an efficient road trip marked by the usual suspects, as the Tigers made quick work of the Gators. Jeff Tiffner opened the scoring for the Tigers, catching a 12-yard touchdown pass from Jake Kennedy to cap off a 10 play, 98-yard scoring drive. After the Gators matched the Tigers touchdown just minutes into the second quarter. Adam Acquista put the Tigers back on top by converting on his first of two 21-yard field goal attempts on the afternoon. Tiffner would find the back of the end-zone for a second time on a 12-yard pass from Kennedy to start the Wittenberg scoring efforts in the second half. Five minutes later, Kennedy would connect with Thad Snodgrass on the 80-yard deep route, extending the Wittenberg lead to 24-7. Liam Duncan would get involved in the third quarter, reeling in a 52-yard pass from Kennedy on a drive that took just three plays and 1:43 to cross into the Allegheny end-zone. Duncan would pick up his second TD reception of the game, extending the Wittenberg lead to 41-7 catching a 19-yard TD pass from Kennedy to start the fourth quarter.

 WHO STOOD OUT:

Kennedy would rack up 378 passing yards on the day, completing 21 of 31 passes with five touchdowns. Nick Kendall and Troy Clay would take the bulk of the rushes for the Tigers at six apiece, Kendall averaged 7.8 yards per rush for 47 total yards, while Clay would average 3.8 yards per carry, busting off a rush for a long of 16-yards. Tiffner would record his sixth game with a touchdown, reeling in his 9th and 10th receiving TD's of the season, exploding for 104 yards on nine catches with 11.6 yards per reception. Duncan would finish with 89 total yards on the day with four receptions, posting his first multi-score game of the season. Michael Ford and Jonathan Seay led the Tiger defense with nine tackles and eight tackles apiece, seven of which were solo. Ford would add a pass breakup to his credit. Terrance Crowe and Brandon Daniels would each finish with six tackles, including a tackle for a loss. Lew Bowser would add an interception to the Tiger defense on the day.

Wittenberg will return to action Saturday, Oct. 20 when they host the Tigers of DePauw University from Edwards-Maurer Field in an NCAC showdown at 1:00 PM.
