Springfield, Ohio – The No. 14 ranked Wittenberg University football team hosted their annual Champions' Night at Edwards-Maurer Field, taking on the Lords of Kenyon College on Saturday evening. The Tigers quickly jumped out to a 31-3 first-half lead, before moving on to secure the win 45-3 in front of a packed home crowd. Wittenberg moves to 3-0 on the season while remaining unbeaten in North Coast Athletic Conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Tigers opened the scoring with an eight play, 68-yard drive capped off by a two-yard Nick Kendall touchdown run. Wittenberg would strike again in the first quarter, as Jake Kennedy would connect with Liam Duncan on a 23-yard touchdown pass. Kendall would bust off a 75-yard TD run to start the second quarter, on a three-play drive took the Tigers the length of the field in fifty-five seconds. Wittenberg would end the half, taking a deep strike down the field as Jeff Tiffner caught a 43-yard TD pass on the first play of the drive. The defense would put some points on the board in the third-quarter when Micah Vann returned a Kenyon pass 35-yards for the score, giving the Tigers the 38-3 advantage. Jaheem Washington found the end zone in the fourth quarter on a 7-yard TD run which burned up six and a half minutes of the fourth quarter.
WHO STOOD OUT
Efficiency was the name of the game on Saturday night against the Lords. The Tigers continue to utilize multiple threats both on the ground and through the air. The Wittenberg run game showcased two 100-plus yardage backs on the evening. Washington racked up 123 yards on 13 attempts, busting off a long of 41 yards. Kendall took the ball 113 yards on 11 carries. Tiffner and Bryce Bailey combined for 89 yards, as Bailey reeled in four passes for a long of 19-yards. Troy Jones came up with his first interception of the season, taking it back 44-yards and into Kenyon territory. Jones would also finish as the Tigers second-leading tackler with six. Donald Hefelfinger would lead the Tiger defense in tackles with seven, while Michael Fiessinger, Jordan Burkey, Artemus Watts, Michael Ford, and Logan Jewsikow each would finish with five.
