#9/#12 Wittenberg Set to Host #15 Frostburg State in First Round of NCAA Playoffs

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio-- #9/#12 Wittenberg will play host to #15 Frostburg State in the first round of the 2017 NCAA Division III Football Championship. Frostburg State (9-1) will travel to Springfield for a noon kickoff at Edwards-Maurer Field on November 18 to take on the 10-0 Tigers.

Frostburg State and Wittenberg have never met on the gridiron, as the team from Frostburg, Maryland earned one of the seven at-large bids after finishing in second place in the New Jersey Athletic Conference final standings. The Bobcats sole loss came to eventual NJAC champions #13 Wesley, coming up on the wrong end of a 27-24 game.

Wittenberg currently holds a 22-16 record in the postseason, as the Tigers have won their last four first-round games. This run includes a four-overtime thriller last year at Thomas More; the longest game played in NCAA Division III postseason history.

If the Tigers win on Saturday, Wittenberg would play again at home in the second round. The Tigers could then matchup with #14 Washington & Jefferson (10-0) or #21 Johns Hopkins (9-1).

The 2017 team becomes the 20th football team in school history to go undefeated in regular season play, as the league title is Wittenberg's 15th overall.  For the seventh time in the last nine seasons, the Wittenberg Tiger football program won the NCAC, as the Tigers' 10-0 campaign is the sixth under Coach Fincham's tenure.

More information about Saturday's game will be updated on this page as it is made readily available.
