#13 Wittenberg Downs Denison 28-12

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio—Coach FIncham described the loss that the Tigers took on the road to Denison a year ago as something that had been on his mind for "about 12 months," on Saturday. Nearly a year later, the Tigers welcomed Denison to Edwards-Maurer field and handed the Big Red a 28-12 loss under the lights. Denison has still not won in Springfield since 1952, a year that the Big Red boasted a quarterback by the name of Davey Maurer. The win over Denison puts the Tigers at 4-0 (3-0), as the NCAC schedule rolls on.

HOW IT HAPPENED:  After receiving the opening kick, Denison's offense quickly gave the ball right back to Wittenberg, as Brandon Daniels got a clean lick on Denison's quarterback, forcing an early fumble. The Tigers offense hit the ground running on Saturday night, as DeShawn Sarley busted a 41-yard run up the Tigers sideline, going untouched in to the end-zone on the Tiger's first play from scrimmage. Denison's ensuing 12 play drive would end in a punt, as the Tigers marched down the field at the end of the second quarter, ending in a pitch and catch from Jake Kennedy to Liam Duncan. Out of the gates in the second quarter it was deja-vu for Wittenberg, as the Tigers 75-yard drive ended yet again with a Kennedy to Duncan touchdown strike, this time from 20 yards out. DU would tack on a pair of field goals to make the game 21-6, as the stop of the game came at the beginning of the fourth quarter for the Tigers. Denison went 17 plays and 85 yards down to the Tigers red-zone, and face with a fourth down, the Tigers defense stopped a scramble from DU's quarterback on the one-yard line, as Michael Ford and Jonathan Seay made the stop. Denison would tack on a late touchdown as the Tigers won 28-12.

WHO STOOD OUT: Jonathan Seay was all over the field Saturday night for the Tigers, as the Florida native racked up 16 tackles, and made it nearly impossible for DU's quarterback to settle in. Jay Mastin picked off not one, but two DU passes, as the Big Red had not thrown an interception coming into Saturday night's NCAC battle. Along with Seay making plays up front, Keenan Wilson totaled 11 tackles and one fumble recovery. On offense, Liam Duncan stepped up in a big way, hauling in two touchdowns and 49 receiving yards. Sarley and Nick Kendall combined for over 100 yards on the ground and two touchdowns, as each back averaged over six yards a carry.

UP NEXT: Wittenberg travels to Hiram for a 3:00PM kickoff on Saturday, October 7.
