Tim Kremchek, ‘81 (and his wife, Hilary, ‘82) have issued a challenge to the Wittenberg Athletic Department. If we can get 220 donors and raise alumni participation by 1%, by April 25, they will give a gift of $25,000 to the athletic department.
Ferko won the award after putting together a campaign that featured 48 stops and 9.5 sacks. Ferko also recorded 2 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries, an interception and a defensive touchdown.
#9/#12 Wittenberg will play host to Frostburg State in the first round of the 2017 NCAA Division III Football Championship. Frostburg State (9-1) will travel to Springfield for a noon kickoff at Edwards-Maurer Field on November 18 to take on the 10-0 Tigers.
For the seventh time in the last nine seasons, the Wittenberg Tigers football program has won the NCAC. Wittenberg disposed of Wooster 47-21 on Saturday afternoon, completing the regular season with a perfect 10-0 record.
The 52-6 win against the recently #25 ranked DePauw Tigers stands as the Tigers most lopsided victory against a ranked opponent since the 2006 46-0 shutout of Washington University in 2009.
Points were not hard to come by at Henry Field, as the Tigers cruised past the Terriers 59-17. Wittenberg’s 59 points came in three quarters, as the Tigers put up 24 in the first, 14 in the second, and 21 in the third before being blanked in the fourth quarter.
The Tigers finished the 2016 campaign with an overall record of 10-2, and their 14th NCAC League Title. Wittenberg went on to defeat the #15 Saints of Thomas More in four-overtimes in the opening round of the NCAA Playoffs, before bowing out the following week to #2 Wisconsin-Whitewater.
