#22 Wittenberg Trounces Kenyon 64-17 on Senior Day

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio—#22 Wittenberg football improved to 8-1 (7-1) in 2016 with a 64-17 victory over the Lords of Kenyon on Saturday on Senior Day at Edwards-Maurer Field. After honoring the senior class of Tigers that have earned two NCAC titles, Wittenberg was rewarded with the opportunity to clinch the NCAC title and a NCAA playoff berth with a victory next week at Allegheny. The Tigers dominated every facet of the game on Saturday, scoring at will, putting up a season high 64 points.

OFFENSIVE NOTES

  • Wittenberg was able to do what they wanted on the ground on Saturday, as the Tigers duo of DeShawn Sarley and Nick Kendall dominated the day, combining for 256 yards and two touchdowns in the win.
  • Sophomore gunslinger Jake Kennedy paced the Tigers with four total touchdowns, as the Bellfontaine native rushed for two, as well as passed for two on Saturday.
  • Jair Knox produced a breakout game for the Tigers in the lopsided victory, pulling in four passes for 88 yards and a touchdown.

DEFENSIVE NOTES

  • The Tigers streak of holding opponents to negative rushing yards ended yesterday, but the Tigers defense did hold the Lords to 106 yards on the ground in the win.
  • Jack Kayser led Wittenberg with eight tackles, an interception, and two pass breakups.
  • Kenyon's heavy passing attack did not fool the Tigers, as Wittenberg managed to pick off the Lords three times.

UP NEXT

  • If Wittenberg wins at Allegheny in next week's 1:00PM regular season finale, it clinches the NCAC's automatic playoff berth.
  • The Tigers would win a head-to-head tiebreaker with Wabash if Wabash beats DePauw next week, or the Tigers could win and clinch the NCAC title outright if Wabash loses.
