Springfield, Ohio — Senior defensive end Kyle Sanning (Fairborn, Ohio/Tecumseh) has been recognized for the combination of his athletic and academic accomplishments with first-team Capital One Academic All-America Division III All-District 7 honors.

The district awards of the Academic All-America program are awarded following nominations and online voting by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Only student-athletes who make the first team in district voting, as Sanning did, can be considered for Academic All-America awards, which will be announced later this month.

Sanning is in his second year as a starter for the Tigers, who head into a showdown against Wabash on Saturday, Nov. 9, with records of 7-1 overall and 7-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC). He ranks fifth on the team with 40 total tackles in 2013, including eight tackles for loss and a team-high five sacks.

As a team, Wittenberg ranks second in the NCAC and 19th in all of NCAA Division III in total defense, allowing just 281 yards and 17 points per game. Sanning is one of six players with at least 40 tackles on the season.

Off the field, Sanning has maintained an outstanding grade point average while majoring in mathematics. He has performed community service at the Springfield YMCA and has volunteered his time at local football camps.
