Springfield, Ohio – For the second time in the 2013 season, a Wittenberg University football player has garnered national recognition from D3football.com as senior quarterback Reed Florence (South Charleston, Ohio/Southeastern) earned a spot on its Team of the Week.

Florence was selected to the D3football.com Team of the Week for games played Oct. 18-19 after a record-setting performance in a 66-39 victory over the College of Wooster. Florence threw for 333 yards and a school-record six touchdowns and ran for 80 yards and another score as the Tigers piled up a school-record 37 first downs and 634 yards of total offense.

In addition, Florence was named North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Offensive Player of the Week, and he was one of two quarterbacks to earn a Team of the Week nod from beyondsportsnetwork.com. Also of note, the Tigers’ offensive line – senior Matt Widemon (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral), sophomore Alec Nutting (Lakeland, Fla./Lakeland), senior Aaron Coeling (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville), senior Adam Klever (Lebanon, Ohio/Moeller) and junior Tyler Compston (Springfield, Ohio/Springfield) – was honored by beyondsportsnetwork.com.

The award for Florence comes two weeks after freshman defensive lineman Brady Vanover (Maineville, Ohio/Kings) earned a spot on the Team of the Week for his performance in a 49-9 win at Hiram.

Through six games, Florence has been nothing short of sensational, leading the NCAC and ranking fifth in all of NCAA Division III in passing efficiency at 187.9 and passing touchdowns with 20. He leads the conference with a completion percentage of .693, and he is averaging 283.7 yards per outing.

Ranked 18th nationally by D3football.com and 14th by the American Football Coaches Association, Wittenberg stands 5-1 on the 2013 season. Following a 49-24 loss to Football Championship Subdivision powerhouse Butler, the Tigers have won five straight games against NCAC opponents by an average margin of 37 points.

Next up for Wittenberg is a road trip to Kenyon on Saturday, Oct. 26. The Tigers are tied for first place in the league standings with Wabash at 5-0, followed by the Lords at 4-2 in NCAC play.
