Springfield, Ohio – Wittenberg University football standout Jon Daniels (Springfield, Ohio/South) has been selected to participate in the third annual National Bowl Game at 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, at J. Birney Crum Stadium in Allentown, Pa.

The National Bowl Game is an invite-only all-star game that includes more than 80 of the best college seniors from around the country, including student-athletes from NCAA Division II and III and NAIA. Longtime college and professional coach Mike Stock is coaching the "Red Nation" team, while Daniels will play on the “Blue Nation” team, led by Chris Thompson, head coach of the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks, a professional indoor team based in Bethlehem, Pa.

Daniels was a two-year starter and three-year letterwinner at defensive end for the Tigers, who won the 2012 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) championship and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament before losing to Hobart College on Nov. 24. Daniels earned first-team All-NCAC honors after ranking fifth on the team in tackles with 65 and fourth in tackles for loss with 6.5 during the 2012 season, in addition to his team-best four fumble recoveries and one interception.

The Tigers finished with records of 10-2 overall and 6-1 in the NCAC in 2012, and over Daniels’ three most recent seasons in the Red & White Wittenberg compiled a record of 28-5. He started his career at Wittenberg in 2004 as he appeared in two varsity games before leaving school due to financial difficulties. He returned to school in 2010 after serving his country in Kuwait as a member of the Ohio National Guard.

Proceeds from ticket sales at the National Bowl Game will be donated to the Tommy Foundation, which works to “embrace individuals on the autism spectrum.” The Muhlenberg College Pep Band will play fight tunes, while 60 students from Neumann College are helping to staff the game.
