Eight Tigers Earn Honors From OhioCollegeFootball.com

Springfield, Ohio – The postseason honors continue to roll in for members of the Wittenberg University football team as a whopping eight scholar-athletes have earned NCAA Division III All-Ohio honors from OhioCollegeFootball.com (OCF).

Junior offensive tackle Aaron Coeling (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) earned a spot on the first team, while senior cornerback Jamaal Everett (Kettering, Ohio/Fairmont) was selected to the second team. Six more Tigers were named to the third team - senior kicker Sean Williams (Plainfield, Ind./Plainfield), junior wide receiver Brendon Cunningham (Kettering, Ohio/Fairmont), junior offensive tackle Matt Widemon (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral), junior safety Mark Swope (Fairborn, Ohio/Fairborn), junior linebacker Spencer Leno (Massillon, Ohio/Massillon) and senior defensive end Jon Daniels (Springfield, Ohio/South).

For Coeling, the All-Ohio award caps a breakout 2012 season in which he also garnered first-team All-North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) and third-team dfootball.com All-North Region honors. He and Widemon, who also earned first-team All-NCAC in 2012, were the leaders of an offensive line that allowed just 15 sacks in 12 games as Wittenberg paced the conference in passing efficiency and ranked second in rushing and passing offense.

Everett earned first-team All-NCAC in 2012 after being named second team a year ago. He finished with 56 tackles and a team-best 10 passes defensed in his final collegiate campaign. He and Swope, who ranked fourth on the team in tackles in 2012, were key members of a secondary that allowed just 186.4 passing yards per game, second best in the conference.

Cunningham was a second-team All-NCAC selection after leading the Tigers and ranking third in the conference with 61 receptions and 10 receiving touchdowns. He ranks third in Wittenberg history for receptions in a season, and he ranks ninth for receptions in a career with 109.

Leno led Wittenberg and ranked third in the NCAC in tackles en route to second-team All-NCAC honors in 2012. Daniels ranked fifth on the team in tackles and led the conference in fumbles recovered with four – two more than any other player – as he earned first-team All-NCAC honors.

Rounding things out, Williams led the Tigers in scoring with a school-record 88 points by kicking, including a record-breaking 14 points in a 52-38 win over Heidelberg in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament. He holds numerous school records, including most career field goals and career field goal and PAT percentage. Williams earned second-team All-NCAC in 2012 and 2010 and first-team all-conference in 2011 to go along with second-team all-region in 2011 and honorable mention All-America from Beyond Sports Network in 2012.

The Tigers finished with records of 10-2 overall and 6-1 in the NCAC in 2012. Wittenberg won a share of the NCAC title for the 11th time since joining the league in 1989 and the third time in four years before bowing out of the NCAA Division III Tournament in the second round.
