The Tiger football team is playing its final game of the 2003
season against one of its traditional North Coast Athletic
Conference rivals. Wittenberg, the winningest football program in
NCAA Division III history, brings a 7-2 overall record and a mark
of 3-2 in the NCAC into the game, while Wooster is also 7-2 overall
and 4-2 in the NCAC. This game, the 38th in a series that dates
back to 1912, is for a share of second place in the final
conference standings.
The Tigers are first in the conference and fifth in the
nation in points per game in 2003, while Wooster is second in
scoring and first in rushing in the NCAC. Both teams are averaging
more than 40 points per contest. Wittenberg showcases one of the
most balanced offensive units in the country, headlined by tailback
Raymar Hampshire, who has nearly 900 yards rushing in 2003, and
wide receivers Skip Ivery and Jered Glover, who have combined for
170 receptions the last two years.
