Wittenberg Baseball Sweeps DePauw From The Road

Springfield, OH – The Wittenberg Tiger Baseball team got back on the winning track with a road sweep of the Tigers from DePauw University. Wittenberg took game of the series, in eight innings, 12-0. The Tigers from Springfield secured the sweep with three more shutout innings to open game two, taking the final, 8-2. With this win, Wittenberg improves to 28-8 overall and 12-2 on the season.

Collecting 14 hits in game one and nine hits in the series finale, Wittenberg tallied eight doubles on the afternoon.

Parker Gryskevich was responsible for three extra-base hits in game one. Gryskevich would drive in two runs and score once, going 4 for 5 at the dish.

Conor O'Malley started his day going 3 for 3 in game one with five RBI. O'Malley would launch his sixth home run of the season, a grand slam in the sixth, giving Wittenberg the 8-0 advantage.

Nate Floyd secured his sixth win of the season, improving to 6-1. Floyd put in seven innings of work on the mound, allowing three hits with five strikeouts. Colin Maynard would make his second appearance of the season on the mound, closing out the eighth for Wittenberg.

Ben Seibert used a 3 for 3 effort at the plate in game two with two RBI to help propel the Wittenberg sweep. Rocco Royer added three hits, including a double in the series finale.

With DePauw finding a short spark in the fourth inning, taking a 2-1 lead over Wittenberg. The visiting Tigers would hold the home side scoreless from the fifth through the end. Wittenberg would pick up their offense back up in the eighth and ninth innings, after tying the game at 2-2 in the sixth. Wittenberg posted four runs in the eighth and two in the ninth.

Andrew Rust would get the start in game two, putting in five innings of work on the mound. Rust would surrender six hits, allowing two runs, while striking out three. Charlie Schafer would work through the final four innings, striking out five DePauw batters with two hits allowed. Schafer secured his first win of the season, improving to 1-1.
