Tigers Sweep Wabash To Remain Unbeaten In NCAC Play

Springfield, OH – The Wittenberg Tiger Baseball team continue their hottest start in North Coast Athletic Conference history, remaining unbeaten with a sweep of the Little Giants from Wabash College. Wittenberg took game one from the Little Giants in seven innings, 12-2. The Tigers held on in the back and forth battle with the Little Giants, securing the sweep, 11-10.

Wittenberg tallied 25 hits in the series with 12 coming in the opener before closing out the sweep with 13.

Ian Ash started the day going 4 for 5 with a pair of doubles, driving in two runs for the Tiger effort in the opener. Matt Moore drove in four runs in the first game, going 2 for 4 at the plate, launching his third homer of the season. Conor O'Malley and Parker Gryskevich each added a pair of hits in the first game.

The Tiger offense smashed three home runs on the day, with two more long balls coming in the second game of the series against the Little Giants. Rocco Royer blasted his fourth home run of the season in the fifth inning of the second game, putting Wittenberg back on top, 9-8.

Chase Whisner left his mark on the scoreboard at Carleton-Davidson Stadium, with Wittenberg trailing 5-2. Whisner blasted a grand slam to left, putting Wittenberg back on top, 6-5, in the bottom of the second.

O'Malley continued to swing the hot bat in game two, driving in two more runs with two RBI. Luke Thomas did a job at the leadoff position in the second game, logging a pair of hits with three runs scored.

Nate Floyd improved to 5-1 on the season, with a game one win over the Little Giants. Floyd put in six innings of work on the mound, allowing seven hits and striking out four.

Wittenberg would use a rotation of arms to secure the sweep in game two. Kyle Mahon would eventually earn the win in the eighth inning of the back and forth battle. After Mahon shutdown the Little Giants in the final inning of game one, he would put in 1.1 innings of work in the series finale, without a hit allowed and one strikeout.

Nick Cunningham would earn his second save of the season, getting the final two outs of the second game with one strikeout.
