Tiger Baseball Sweeps Transylvania On Final Day of Baltimore Invite

Baltimore, MD – The Wittenberg Tiger Baseball team picked up a pair of wins with a sweep of the Transylvania University Pioneers from the final day of the Baltimore Invitational, hosted by Johns Hopkins University. Wittenberg took game one from Transylvania by a final score, 4-3. The Tigers kept the offense rolling in the second game, taking down the Pioneers, 17-5, in eight innings. After putting up seven hits in the first game, the Tigers kept it rolling in game two against Transylvania adding 16 more to their total.

Five Tigers finished with two hits at the end of eight-innings in game two against the Pioneers. Chase Whisner and Parker Gryskevich added a pair of hits in both games. Whisner tallied a double in each game. Gryskevich tallied hist first longball of the 2023 season, with a three-run shot to cap off a six-run Wittenberg eighth inning.

Michael Bronowski blasted a three-run homer in the Tiger half of the fifth, putting Wittenberg ahead 11-1, in game two.

The Tiger pitching staff got dominant performances from start to finish from all pieces off the staff. Austin Luther got the start in game one against Transylvania, in his home state of Maryland. Luther tossed 5.1 innings, allowing four hits and striking out four. Charlie Schafer fanned five in 2.2 innings of work with one hit allowed. Justin Maynard closed out the final inning of the first game, allowing one hit and fanning two, on his way to earn the save.

Michael Osmond cruised to a game-two win with a one-hit 10 strikeout performance, behind a dominant offensive display. Tyler Defibaugh and Nate Floyd would come in to close out the day for the Tigers.

UP NEXT

Wittenberg will return to action taking on #3 LaGrange College from Cleaveland Field in Williamson Stadium, on Monday, March 6 at 2:00 PM. The Tigers will continue on with their Spring Break trip, taking on Emory University in back-to-back days on Tuesday and Wednesday March, 7-8, at 1:00 PM. Wittenberg will then travel to Ogelthorpe for a three-game series with Oglethorpe, Mach 10-11.
