Coach McGee Welcomes Mitchell Griffiths to Coaching Staff

Mitchell Griffiths joined the Wittenberg University baseball staff heading into the 2022-23 season, as the Recruiting Coordinator and Pitching Coach.

Griffiths comes to Wittenberg after spending two seasons at NCAA Division II Coker University (S.C), before that, Griffiths had spent one season on staff at Adrian College.

"When this position opened up within our coaching staff I asked myself what this program needed to continue climbing the national ladder.  I knew the type of coach we needed would be of particular background and personality, and after reviewing near 100 applicants, we found our man in Mitchell Griffiths," Head Coach Brian McGee said. "Mitchell comes with great experiences as both a player and coach, a high caliber of knowledge, and holds many certifications in which we find resourceful for the development of our players.  Mitchell will be working as both a pitching coach and as the recruiting coordinator for the program.  I am anxious to get Mitchell working with our current student-athletes, as well as on the recruitment of our future Tigers."

During the COVID-19 shortened season at Adrian the Pitchers carried a 3.26 ERA with 91 Strikeouts compared to just 46 BBs in 77.1 Innings. Griffiths also coached 2021 LA Angels 13thRound Draft Pick Mo Hanley during his tenure at Adrian. While on staff at Coke, Griffiths helped the Cobra's set the program set the team record for single-season strikeouts by more than 70 K's. Griffiths holds both Rapsodo and Driveline program certifications.

"Thank you to Coach McGee for giving me the opportunity to join the Wittenberg baseball staff," Griffiths said. "I am excited to be back in Ohio and I look forward to helping the program continue their success."

He spent one year at Walsh University in North Canton, Ohio, as the graduate assistant coach helping with the NCAA Division II pitching staff.

A Columbus, Ohio native, Griffiths played for four years at NCAA Division II Alderson Broaddus University in Philippi, W.V. He was a sophomore member of the 2016 Great Midwest Athletic Conference championship team that qualified for the Division II Midwest Regional, as A-B ended up with a 31-21 overall record and a 14-8 mark in the GMAC. He graduated as the program's career record holder in pitching appearances at 56. He finished with a 4-7 career won-lost record with five saves.

He holds a degree in business administration from A-B, and a Master of Business Administration from Walsh.
