Wittenberg Baseball Wraps-Up Season From NCAC Tournament

Chillicothe, OH -- The Wittenberg Tiger Baseball team closed out their season from the NCAC Tournament on Friday afternoon, falling to the Tigers from DePauw, 7-2 in the elimination game. Wittenberg closes out their season with a 27-12 overall record and 14-4 in NCAC action. The Tiger ballclub garnered the most wins since 1995, with the most conference wins since 1996. The 2022 Wittenberg baseball team surpassed expectations, after the NCAC Preseason Poll projected the Tigers finish fourth in the conference. The Tiger's secured the first NCAC Tournament appearance since 2011 earning the No. 2 seed overall.

DePauw stuck first, plating two-runs in the top of the third. Wittenberg responded with a run of their own to cut the lead in half. An RBI double into right by Conor O'Malley put Wittenberg on the board, scoring Chase Whisner for the first Wittenberg run. Jack Siefert tied the game at 2-2 in the fifth, ripping a single into left and bringing around Gabe Stacy. Collecting nine hits on the day, Wittenberg saw a 2 for 3 day from Siefert and 3 for 4 day from Austin Morrow at the dish.

Nick Cunningham tossed 6.2 innings, earning the start in the elimination game against the DePauw Tigers. Cunningham allowed eight hits and struckout six with just two earned runs. Joe Horoszko and Tyler Defibaugh would close out the final two innings of action, coming out of the Wittenberg bullpen.
