Hollinshead Named NCBWA DIII Hitter of the Week

On Wednesday afternoon, Jack Hollinshead added National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Division III Hitter of the Week honors to his already growing list of accolades through this early 2021 season. Hollinshead is the first Tiger in Wittenberg baseball history to earn this distinction, as he currently leads the Red and White in nearly every major offensive category through the first ten games of the season. Hollinshead is currently topping the Div. III rankings with 10 round-trippers. In 41 at-bats this season, Hollinshead has 22 hits with 22 RBI's, logging a .537 average with a .612 on-base percentage, while slugging 1.317.

In the third week of the season, the senior catcher/designated hitter Hollinshead powered the Tigers to a 2-1 week with wins over NCAA Div. II Cedarville University and Case Western Reserve University. The senior collected multiple hits in each of Wittenberg's three contests, including a 4-for-6 game against the Spartans, which was highlighted by a three-homer performance. On the week, Hollinshead batted at a .615 clip (8-for-13) with four home runs, seven runs scored, and six RBI. Hollinshead has earned North Coast Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week designation twice during this 2021 season while being named to the D3baseball.com Team of the Week in each of the first three weeks of competition.

Wittenberg baseball is off to one of their hottest starts in program history, which include a season-opening win over NCAA Divison I Akron, 5-1, and a 17-5 win over NCAA DII Cedarville on March 26th. The Tigers matched their longest winning streak since 2005, at eight games, with their win over Cedarville. The Tiger offense is pouring on the runs, posting double-digits in 7 of 10 games this season. As a unit, the Red and White have a team batting average of .347.
