Tiger Baseball Continues Winning Ways At Cedarville

Cedarville, OH - The Wittenberg University baseball team carried their hot start onto the road, taking down NCAA Division II opponent Cedarville University, 17-5. The Tigers collected 16 hits behind the hot bats of Jack Siefert and Ryan Probst. Siefert tallied his second home run of the season, finishing the day 2 for 4 with four runs batted in. Probst finished the day 3 for 4 from the plate, driving in three Tiger runs. With this win, the Tigers match their longest winning streak since 2005, at eight games, which started with a 12-3 win over Cedarville. Tyler Defibaugh earned his first win in a Wittenberg uniform, putting in 4.2 innings of work on the mound for the Tigers. Defibaugh faced 17 Cedarville batters, allowing just two hits and striking out five. 

Game Breakdown

After four days of rest, the Tiger offense was ready to explode scoring six runs in the first inning. Hollinshead continued to swing the hot back, driving in the first Tiger run with an RBI single to left, scoring Patrick Kenny. Siefert got his day started with an RBI double in the gap in left to bring home Hollinshead. After a miscue by the Cedarville defense on the Dylan Jackson at-bat. Gage Carpenter cleared the bases with a triple to left-center. Coming back around to the top of the order, Gabe Stacy reached on the fielder's choice as the sixth Tiger run of the inning crossed. Cedarville saw a glimpse of offense in the third and fifth innings, putting up four runs in the third and one run in the fifth. The Tigers responded by scoring nine runs over the final four innings. Siefert got the scoring rally started in the sixth inning with a two-run homer down the line in leftfield. The Tigers tacked on three more in the seventh with Kenny lacing a double down the line to score the first two of three Wittenberg runs in the inning. Wittenberg sealed the deal with three more runs in the ninth, holding Cedarville scoreless from the sixth inning on. Rusty Hayhurst picked up the start on the mound for the Tigers, tossing 4.1 innings, striking out three with four hits allowed.
