Tigers Complete Season Sweep Of Earlham From The Road

Richmond, Ind. – The Wittenberg University baseball team completed the series sweep of Earlham College on Tuesday evening, defeating the Quakers 10-4. The bats were hot on a cold night, as the Tigers tallied eight hits on the night, finishing with 20 on the series against the Quakers. Ryan Probst and Bryce Kilfoyle led the Tiger attack with two hits and two runs scored apiece on the night.

Game Breakdown

Wittenberg put two runs on the board early in the first inning, starting with a Jack Siefert RBI single to bring home Probst. The Tigers added to their lead in the early going, as Mason Davis recorded one of his two RBI's on the night, scoring Patrick Kenny on the sacrifice fly. The Quakers struck back in the bottom half of the first inning, with four-runs of their own to regain the lead. After a scoreless second inning by both sides, Wittenberg would take control of the offense, while keeping Earlham off the scoreboard the rest of the way. Wittenberg added two more runs in the third inning, bringing things back to even at 4-4 as Davis reached on the Earlham fielding error, scoring Hayden Knox and Kenny. The Tigers would tally a run in the fourth, fifth, sixth and eighth inning. Matt Baker started the final scoring rally in the top of the ninth with a bases-loaded walk before Probst sent the sacrifice fly out to center field to bring home Kilfoyle for the final Wittenberg run.

Michael Martin took the mound to start the game for the Red and White, tossing 4.2 innings allowing three hits and striking out eight. Rusty Hayhurst came in for 4.1 innings of relief, giving up one hit and striking out two and earning the win for the Tigers.

Wittenberg will make their way south for their six games over Spring Break, starting with a three-game series at Sewanee: The University of the South. The Tigers will battle Sewanee on Saturday in a single game at 3:00 PM on Saturday, Mar. 2, before following up with a doubleheader on Sunday, Mar. 3 at 12:00 PM.
