Tigers Down Quakers in a Thrilling Extra Innings Victory

Wilmington, Ohio – The Wittenberg Tigers baseball team took home a win in a thrilling 12-6 extra innings victory over the Wilmington Quakers, after a grand slam by Jack Siefert broke the deadlock in the 11th inning. The Tigers bats came alive in the 11th inning, stringing together seven hits and scoring eight runs to seal the victory. All of Wittenberg's starters collected at least one hit on the day, with Ryan Probst, Tim Bates, and Jack Siefert putting together three hit performances and the team totaling 21 for the contest. Rusty Hayhurst turned in another quality start, tossing six and a third innings, allowing five hits and two runs but took home a no-decision.

GAME BREAKDOWN

The Tigers opened up scoring in the second inning as Chase Carpenter plated Jack Siefert on a single to left field. Wilmington would regain the lead in the fourth inning before Wittenberg strung together four hits from Probst, Patrick Kenny, Bates, and Siefert in the top of the fifth to score three runs and bring the tally to 4-2. The Tigers lead wouldn't hold for long as the Quakers brought three runs home on a long ball to knot the game up at 5-5. In the 11th, Wittenberg loaded the bases off of a Probst single, a Hayden Knox bunt single, and a Bates walk before Siefert blasted a no doubt grand slam to put the Tigers up four. Wittenberg would score three more runs, courtesy of Gage Carpenter and Matt Baker, in the inning to seal the game. The Quakers would make some noise in the bottom of the inning before making the last out, bringing the final to 12-6.
