Springfield, Ohio – The Wittenberg University split their NCAC doubleheader with the visiting DePauw Tigers, falling in the opener 18-0. Wittenberg would bounce back in game two, splitting the series with a 6-2 win in the finale. Jack Siefert provided the offensive spark in game two with a two-run home run to cap off a four-run first inning for Wittenberg.

GAME BREAKDOWN

Wittenberg tallied five hits in the first game, as Ryan Probst tallied a single and a double against the DePauw defense of game one. Wittenberg surrendered a run in each inning but the sixth, allowing 18 DePauw hits in the first game of the day. Six different Wittenberg pitchers saw action with Rusty Hayhurst getting the start, making way for Jordan Jolly Parker Tietz to get a little over two innings of work. Jacob Muhleman, Andrew Juelg, and Tanner Boros each made an appearance on the hill for Wittenberg.

Wittenberg would explode for a four-run first inning in game two, starting with a Probst single to center field to score Matt Baker. Patrick Kenny singled to center, advancing to second on the throw and driving home Probst. The two-run homer by Siefert capped off the inning for Wittenberg, giving them a 4-1 advantage. A Baker single back up the middle in the bottom half of the fourth inning would extend the Witt lead out to 5-1. Wittenberg would score their final run in the seventh inning, executing the double steal, with Kenny capturing second and Jolly taking home. Jace Barga picked up the win tossing six and a third with 26 batters faced with four hits allowed and eight strikeouts. Adam Mays closed out the game with 10 batters faced, striking out three and one hit allowed.
