Springfield, Ohio – The Wittenberg University baseball team put on a smashing show, collecting 22 hits between their two games with Oberlin College on Friday evening. The Tiger's split the NCAC doubleheader with the Yeomen, taking the first game by a 9-4 decision with 14 hits to start the night. Wittenberg would fall in the second game to Oberlin 7-4 with eight hits in the series finale. Finishing with four batters collecting multiple hits in the first game, Patrick Kenny and Jack Hollinshead each finished with three, as the pair tallied three of the team's four doubles between them. Jack Siefert and Tim Bates each tacked on a pair of hits. Siefert would push across three RBI's for the Tigers in the first game, including a two-run opposite field homer as part of a four-run Wittenberg rally in the sixth inning of the first game.
GAME ONE
Wittenberg jumped out to an early lead, coming off a Hollinshead single to score Gabe Stacy in the bottom of the second inning. After Oberlin knotted things up in the top of the fourth, Siefert would double to left center to bring home Bates in the bottom half of the fifth. Wittenberg put together a four-run sixth inning, starting with an RBI double by Kenny to score Jordan Jolly. Bates would single through to right field, scoring Kenny and extending the Tiger lead out further. The Siefert homerun pushed the Wittenberg to 6-1 after the sixth inning came to an end. Wittenberg would put their final three runs of the game up in the seventh inning, Jolly would single to center bringing home Hamrick to start the scoring rally. A Ryan Probst Single to left field would score the last two, bringing in Jolly and Hollinshead. The Wittenberg pitching staff tallied 11 strikeouts on the evening, as Tanner Griggs took the hills to start with four K's over four innings of work. Aaron Fasano picked up the win, facing eight Oberlin batters and striking out two. Brandon Beegle and Adam Mays combined to close out the game, as Beegle fanned two and Mays sat down three.
GAME TWO
Wittenberg was out to an early lead over Oberlin to start the second game, starting with a Gage Carpenter single to center field in the bottom of the second inning scoring Siefert and Bates. Oberlin would regain the lead in the third with a three-run home run. Siefert would equalize the game back at three-all with a double to left field, scoring Bates. Wittenberg would take the lead in the fifth, scoring their second run of the inning, as Hayden Knox reached on the Oberlin error, allowing Siefert to come home and score. Oberlin would take back the advantage in the top of the eighth, adding one more run in the ninth. Jace Barga took the bump to start the second game, facing 23 Oberlin hitters and fanning four with eight hits allowed over five and a third of work. Michael Martin sat down one, facing eight batters with two hits allowed. Andrew Goodpaster, Mays and Jack Bayhurst each made an appearance down the stretch in relief for the Tigers.
