Wittenberg Baseball Drops Road Series At Wabash

Crawfordsville, Ind. – The Wittenberg University baseball team battled Wabash College in an NCAC road series, falling 5-3 in hard-fought first game. The Tiger's returned in game two, dropping the finale of the twin bill by a final of 2-0. Wittenberg recorded eight hits through two games on the day, with Matt Baker coming up with a hit against the Little Giants in each contest.

 

GAME ONE

Wittenberg was the first to strike, taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning. A Jace Barga RBI groundout would drive in Hayden Knox for the first Tiger run of the afternoon. Wittenberg would extend their lead in the top of the fourth on the David Hamrick single to left field, to plate Knox once again. Wabash would plate three in the bottom half of the fourth inning to regain the lead. Wittenberg would knot things back up at 3-3 in the top of the fifth, as Jack Siefert reached on a fielder's choice, bringing in Baker to score. The Little Giants would regain the lead in the bottom of the eighth, holding on through the final three outs. Jordan Jolly took the hill to start the game with three-plus innings of work and 19 batters faced. Jolly allowed six hits while striking out three. Aaron Fasano put in three and a third innings of work of long relief. Adam Mays closed out the final inning with two strikeouts and three hits allowed.

 

GAME TWO

Wabash plated their only two runs of the game in the bottom of the first inning. The Tiger pitching staff of Rusty Hayhurst and Adam Mays combined for eight scoreless innings.

 

UP NEXT: Wittenberg will return to action on Saturday, April 14 when they host the Yeomen of Oberlin College in a doubleheader at 1:00 PM.
