Tigers Split Saturday Double-Dip With Marian University

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio—Wittenberg baseball split a double-header with the Sabres of Marian University on Saturday at Carleton Davidson Stadium. Wittenberg and Marian went back and forth at the plate, while defense on both sides proved to be the difference in the Tigers 5-4 win in game one, and their 6-3 loss in game two.

GAME ONE SCORING BREAKDOWN

Bottom 5th

  • Wittenberg got on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning when Jace Barga turned on a fastball, sending it into right field, plating starting catcher, Patrick Kenny.
  • The Tiger tacked on two more when their lineup turned over, as Matt Baker sliced a ball to third base, as the Sabres third basemen could not handle the hop, plating Barga and Probst.

Bottom 6th

  • Kenny tacked on another run for Wittenberg in the bottom of the sixth, as the Colorado native laced a ball over Marian's center fielder's head, plating senior outfielder Dalton Boucher.

Bottom 9th

  • With the game tied at 4-4, senior infielder Josh Kaplan grounded out to shortstop with Baker on second base, as the throw to first took the Sabre's first baseman off the bag, allowing Baker to come all the way around to score.

GAME TWO SCORING BREAKDOWN

Bottom 4th

  • Brad Malott took an off-speed pitch the other way to left-field in the bottom of the fourth, pating Timmy Bates.

Bottom 7th

  • Freshman shortstop Ryan Probst continued to handle the bat well, recording an RBI on a groundout to shortstop, as Paul Stanley came around to score.
  • Baker plated the final Tiger run, as the sophomore singled to left-center, as freshman catcher Adam Mays scored on the play.
