Tigers Conclude Spring Break with 10-2 Win Over Emerson
AUBURNDALE, Florida—Wittenberg baseball concluded their Florida spring break trip with a 10-2 victory over Emerson University Friday morning. The Tigers exploded for 15 hits in the contest, as their starter, Jonathon Forster, logged six innings on the bump, surrendering five hits, while striking out six.

 

SCORING BREAKDOWN

Bottom 1st

  • Witteberg cracked the scoring column first on Friday, as sophomore Brad Malott laced a single to the outfield that plated Matt Baker.
  • Junior first baseman Timmy Bates drove a ball deep enough to the outfield that allowed Marshall Eippert to tag and score, as the Tigers led 2-0.

Bottom 3rd

  • The Tigers took a 3-1 lead on an Adam Mays RBI single that scored Baker.

Bottom 5th

  • Wittenberg plated four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, starting with a Mays double that scored Bates.
  • With one out in the inning, senior Josh Kaplan doubled home Mays, followed by Jace Barga legging out a triple that scored Chase Carpenter and Kaplan.
  • Capping off the big inning for Wittenberg was a Baker, who singled home Barga, as the Tigers led 8-1.

Bottom 6th

  • Bates recorded an RBI triple that plated starting second basemen Malott to give the Tigers a 9-2 lead.
  • Wittenberg would score their tenth and final run of the game on a Mays sac fly, scoring Bates.

KEY STATS

  • Four of the Tigers 15 hits went for extra bases, as the Tigers were led offensively by Baker who went four for five in the game.
  • Mays recorded a career high three RBI's, while Bates and Barga each recorded two.
  • Avery Hogue relieved Forster, as the freshman logged three innings of two hit baseball, recording two strikeouts.
  • Wittenberg stole three bases on the day, as Baker recorded two, and Malott one.
