Tiger Baseball Splits Four Game Home and Home Series with Kenyon

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio—Wittenberg baseball split a four game series against the Lords of Kenyon College over the weekend. While the first two games took place in Gambier, the Lords came to Springfield to complete the series on Sunday, but the day's games did not count towards either team's NCAC record as they were being made up from a previously scheduled rainout.  Wittenberg managed to win the second game of each double-header on back to back days, earning a split over the weekend. Kenyon topped the Tigers 5-2 in game one, while the Tigers came back to bite the Lords 4-3 in game two. Game three was a laugher, as the Lords were all over the Tigers 14-3, but it was the Tigers who got the last laugh at home, downing Kenyon in a slugfest 14-11. Wittenberg is now 9-21 overall in 2016.

WEEKEND NOTES

  • The Tigers were led at the plate all weekend by junior Dalton Boucher (Granville, Ohio/Granville) and sophomore Timmy Bates (Westerville, Ohio/South), as the duo combined for 13 hits in the four game series.
  • Noble Moore (Deleware, Ohio/Hayes) and Will Cousins (Medifled, Massachusetts/Medfield) stole the show in game four for the Tigers, totaling six RBI's, as Moore stroked two doubles in the game.
  • In game four, the Tigers had five different players record multi-hit games, while three recorded multi-RBI games as well.
  • On the mound, senior southpaw Luke Black (St. Paris, Ohio/Graham) settled in for the Tigers in the 14-11 victory, chucking six innings, while surrendering four earned runs for the home team.
  • The unsung hero in relief this past weekend for Wittenberg was sophomore righty Johnathon Forster (Royal Oak, Michigan/Brother Rice) who shut down the Lords in a game two victory with three innings pitched, surrendering just two hits while striking out three.
