SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers trailed by six runs before they had taken their first swings, and the deficit proved to be too much to overcome in what became an 11-4 loss to visiting Urbana.

The loss dropped Wittenberg to 9-21 on the 2014 season, with another home game on tap for Wednesday, April 23, against Muskingum. Urbana improved to 19-13.

A parade of Wittenberg pitchers started with freshman Devon Friedfertig (Boston, Mass./Cushing Academy), who made his first career start. He allowed six runs in the top of the first inning before settling down to strand five runners over two innings of work. He took the loss after allowing six earned runs on six hits and three walks.

Urbana left the bases loaded three times in the first six innings as Tiger pitchers allowed 12 hits and walked a whopping 10 Blue Knight batters. Urbana stranded 13 base-runners while putting runners in scoring position in each of the first seven innings. Sophomore Jordan Hitt (South Charleston, Ohio/Southeastern) set Urbana down in order in the eighth inning and senior Alex Lochard (Sidney, Ohio/Sidney) struck out the side in the ninth.

The offense showed some sparks as the Tigers piled up 10 hits. Freshman Dalton Boucher (Granville, Ohio/Granville) collected three hits and scored a run, senior Tyler Hutchinson (Lebanon, Ohio/Cincinnati Moeller) cracked an RBI double in the bottom of the ninth inning, senior David Moore (Tipp City, Ohio/Tippecanoe) went 2-for-5 with a run scored, and sophomore Corey Farnbauch (Hilliard, Ohio/Davidson) came off the bench to contribute a pair of base hits and score the Tigers' first run.
