SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The Wittenberg Tigers overcame six errors in the first three innings to pick up a mid-week, non-conference victory over visiting Wilmington 13-7.
The Tigers pounded out 12 hits and took advantage of five walks, two hit batsmen, two wild pitches and five errors by the Quakers to improve to 12-2 overall on the season, heading into a road trip to Capital on Thursday. Wilmington fell to 4-17.
Nine different pitchers worked for the Tigers, starting with sophomore Mike Burgher (Birmingham, Mich./Seaholm). Senior Zach Finke (Maineville, Ohio/St. Xavier) gave up two runs in the fourth inning, but he picked up the win after the Tigers rallied in the bottom half of the inning to re-take a lead they would not relinquish.
The offense was sparked by four different players with multi-hit games, led by sophomore Zac Wilson (Eaton, Ohio/Eaton) with three hits and three runs scored in four plate appearances. He also swiped a pair of bases to run his season total to 12 without being caught.
Sophomore Brandon Reaman (Dayton, Ohio/Northmont) added two hits and three runs scored, junior Tyler Hutchinson (Lebanon, Ohio/Cincinnati Moeller) contributed two hits, two runs and two RBIs, junior Brandon Jordan (Ithaca, NY/Ithaca) finished with two hits and three runs batted in, and senior Graham Wolff (Lake Bluff, Ill./Lake Forest) also turned in a solid stat line with two runs scored and two RBIs.
