Wittenberg Baseball Standouts Named To All-Buckeye State Teams

Springfield, Ohio — Six Wittenberg University baseball standouts earned spots on the 2011 Division III All-Buckeye State Baseball Team.

First baseman Matt Hampp, class of 2012 from Hilliard, Ohio, and centerfielder Ray Noe, class of 2011 from Dublin, Ohio, were both selected to the second team to lead the Tigers' honorees. Hampp batted a team-best .399 in 2011, including a season-ending 21-game hitting streak. He led the team with 55 hits, five home runs and 26 runs batted in. Noe capped his career in the Red & White with his best season, contributing a .397 batting average while ranking among the team leaders in nearly every offensive category.

A trio of Tigers made the third team in catcher Jason Haunty, class of 2011 from Worthington, Ohio, second baseman Graham Wolff, class of 2013 from Lake Forest, Ill., and relief pitcher Matt Rupert, class of 2013 from Evanston, Ill. Haunty drove in 20 runs while batting a career-best .386 and successfully stealing nine bases in nine attempts in 2011. Wolff enjoyed a breakout campaign, finishing with a .338 batting average and a .979 fielding percentage. Rupert led the Tigers with a 3.41 earned run average to go along with a 3-1 record in a team-high 19 appearances. His eight saves in 2011 rank second in program history.

Finally, designated hitter Mike Yednock, class of 2011 from Worthington, Ohio, earned honorable mention. He batted .347 and drove in 19 runs on the season.

The Tigers finished the 2011 season with records of 20-18 overall and 9-5 in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC), good for a fourth-place tie. Wittenberg made its first appearance in the NCAC Tournament since 2006.
