Wittenberg Drops Road Opener At Transylvania

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Heading into a crucial four-game series at North Coast Athletic Conference West Division rival Ohio Wesleyan, the Wittenberg Tigers were unable to gain any momentum with a 16-7 loss at Transylvania.

Once again, it was errors that proved costly for the Tigers. Wittenberg committed four miscues in the nine-inning game, leading to four unearned runs. In addition, innings were extended as the Pioneers banged out 14 hits against five Tiger pitchers.

Each of the five Wittenberg pitchers allowed at least two runs in the game. Transylvania scored in seven of their eight turns at the plate.

Offensively, the Tigers got two hits each from sophomore Jacob Michael (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty) and junior Matt Steinke (Wapakoneta, Ohio/St. Mary's Memorial) and two runs scored from sophomore J.T. Thompson (Clayton, Ohio/Northmont). Run-scoring hits were provided by junior Tyler Christello (Eaton, Ohio/Eaton) with two runs batted in and Michael with three RBI.

The Tigers rested their four projected starters for the key weekend set at defending West Division champion Ohio Wesleyan. Doubleheaders on both Saturday and Sunday are slated for 1 p.m. starts.
