Each week during the school year, Wittenberg University Director of Athletics and Recreation Gary Williams interviews a Tiger student-athlete for a special website feature called "Q&A with Dr. Gary."

Special thanks to Andy Elliot '19 for his hard work putting the feature together this week.

Q & A with Dr. Gary, Featuring Colin Laszlo, Men's Golf

Q: How would you describe the athletic culture/environment at Wittenberg?

A: The athletic culture at Wittenberg is unique.  Throughout my time here I have felt the family-like environment within my team and as a collective whole.  Wittenberg athletics is like a second family to me and has made me feel like this has been my home for the last four years.

Q: What is your most memorable sports moment at Witt?

A: I have been blessed with many great moments during my athletic career here, but the one that stands out is when our team won the National Championship in the Spring of 2017.  Everything fell into place for us that week, and we believed that it was our time.  The best part of that moment was getting to hug my dad when I walked off the 18th in the final round.  My family is a huge part of my life, and getting that hug on the final hole makes an athletic event really special for me.

Q: What made Wittenberg your choice as opposed to other schools?

A: I chose Wittenberg because I knew it was going to be the best place for me to grow and develop as a player, as well as giving me the best opportunity to win a National Championship.

Q: Where is your favorite place to eat on campus? (CDR, Post, etc.)

A: My favorite place to eat on campus is Post.  I always go to the sandwich station to visit my favorite server, Ms. Darletta.  If you have not had a sandwich made by her, you're missing out!

Q: What are you studying at Witt and why does it interest you?

A: I am a Marketing and Sports Management double major.  I chose Marketing as my first major because I wanted to better understand how to capture the attention of people.  I chose Sports Management as my second major because I have been around sports all my life, and I thought it would be interesting to learn about the ins and outs of the sporting industry.

Q: If you could play any other sport, what would it be and why?

A: If I could play any other sport it would be volleyball because I love the intensity that is part of this sport.  When I am watching volleyball at Wittenberg, or my beloved Rainbow Warriors, it is amazing to see how they all come together on the court.

Q: Who is your favorite Wittenberg athlete and why?

A: My favorite athlete at Wittenberg is Sam Stilwell.  Sam is one of the hardest workers that Wittenberg Golf has ever had, and he has been a huge part of my growth on the course.  He has always encouraged me to do my best, and when my best was not good enough, to work harder so that I could be the best.

Q: What does it mean to you to be a Wittenberg Tiger?

A: Being a Wittenberg Tiger means to never give up and always strive to be great.  Wittenberg Tigers have no quit in the heat of a battle.  Whether the battle is won or lost, we lick our wounds and move on to the next one. As Tigers, we are always striving for greatness academically and athletically.

Q: What kind of music do you listen to before a game, tournament, etc. (Favorite artists, songs, albums)

A: Every morning when my alarm wakes up I play "Good Morning" by Kanye.  It gets me in the right mindset to have a good morning and go from there.  Other than that, the pre-tournament playlist is not consistent.  I just listen to whatever I am feeling that day, try to get a song that is catchy in my head, then go play.

Q: How did you start in your sport?

A: I've had a club in my hand since I was five years old.  My grandpa was an amazing amateur golfer and wanted me to experience the joys of the game that he so dearly loved.  Originally, I did not like golf because I did not have the patience for it, but over time I grew to love the game as my grandpa did.  Golf is now very special to me because been a gateway that has brought my grandpa, dad, and me very close.

Q: Who professionally is your favorite player in your sport?

A: Rickie Fowler.
