Q & A with Dr. Gary, Featuring Morgan Siefert, Women's Swimming & Diving
Q: How would you describe the athletic culture/environment at Wittenberg?
A: I think we pride ourselves on our athletics here. It is a huge part of our campus identity! I really enjoy how we are considered student-athletes. Our academics are always first and I think that is such an important aspect that we have here at Witt.
Q: What is your most memorable sports moment at Witt?
A: My sophomore year I swam the mile at conference for the first time in three years and I had a lifetime best and won my heat. It was such a great feeling!
Q: What made Wittenberg your choice as opposed to other schools?
A: I loved the atmosphere of the swim team here when I was looking for schools to attend. I had a high school swim meet held here at Witt and it was one of my best in-season meets that year and I knew it was a good fit for me! I loved how pretty the campus is and all of the opportunities to be involved. I also loved that there is a community service aspect to graduating!
Q: Where is your favorite place to eat on campus? (CDR, Post, etc.)
A: Definitely Post 95! I love being able to study there with friends, grab a coffee, and eat all at the same time!
Q: What are you studying at Witt and why does it interest you?
A: I am studying Sports Management and Business. I have always loved everything about sports and I want to stay involved with sports long after I have finished my swimming career.
Q: If you could play any other sport, what would it be and why?
A: I honestly could not pick another sport to play. I’m not very coordinated on land, haha. I’ve tried other sports in high school and I’ve always loved swimming more!
Q: Who is your favorite Wittenberg athlete and why?
A: I do not have one favorite Wittenberg athlete. There have been so many extraordinary athletes that have come through Witt!
Q: What does it mean to you to be at Wittenberg Tiger?
A: It is very important to me! It’s my home, my family, my school, and where I belong. I love representing Wittenberg everywhere I go!
Q: What kind of music do you listen to before a game, tournament, etc. (Favorite artists, songs, albums)
A: My playlist changes with time! Right now on my playlist, I listen to: High hopes by Panic! At the Disco, Matchbox Twenty, Justin Bieber, and some country songs. I have a really diverse playlist! If I like the song, I can usually get pumped with it to swim fast!
Q: How did you start in your sport?
A: I actually had no idea how to swim until I was 10 years old. I was saved by lifeguards on many occasions growing up. My parents would not let me into the deeper parts of pools. When I was 10, I saw the Disney Channel movie, The Thirteenth Year, and it is about a boy who is on his school’s swim team, and he becomes a mermaid. I thought that was the coolest thing ever so I begged my parents to let me join the swim team. Best decision in my life! Because here I am today, a college swimmer!
Q: Who professionally is your favorite player in your sport?
A: My favorite professional swimmer is Michael Phelps. He has accomplished so many things for this sport and has brought it into the light more than anyone has been able to do!
