Springfield, Ohio – Wittenberg University Director of Athletics and Recreation Gary Williams has announced a variety of staffing updates as the 2014-15 school year approaches.
Williams, who began his assignment as the leader of Wittenberg’s Department of Athletics in June, is supported by a senior staff that includes Associate Director of Athletics/Senior Woman Administrator Joni Williamson, Assistant Director of Athletics Maigan Larsen, and Associate Director of Athletics Joe Fincham. All three individuals have assumed new roles and duties in 2014-15, as Williamson is charged with finance and administration, Larsen is leading the department’s facilities and operations, and Fincham will oversee external affairs, in addition to his duties as the Tigers’ football head coach.
“As we begin the 123rd year of intercollegiate athletics and my first at Wittenberg, I am so proud of the work our staff has done to prepare for the arrival of our fall sports teams,” said Williams, who previously served as an assistant director of athletics at his alma mater, Carthage College. “Our student-athletes are so fortunate to have such an amazing staff that truly believes in and supports both our work in athletics and for the university as a whole.
“It is in the strength of these great leaders that we can continue to work towards still greater progress in supporting student success on and off the field, promoting the mission of the university and helping to ensure that our department is doing its part to improve the financial sustainability of our program both now and into the future.”
In addition, several staff changes have taken place in recent weeks, starting with head coaching positions. The Tiger women’s lacrosse program is now led by Nicholle St. Pierre, who comes to Springfield from Philadelphia University, and a national search is currently underway for a new men’s and women’s tennis coach after the departure of Justin Stuckey in July.
The volleyball coaching staff now includes former Tiger setter Hallie Donathan, class of 2013, who served as a volunteer assistant a year ago and replaces another former Tiger setter in Amy Cox, class of 2011. Brenton Dawson is filling a newly created full-time position of assistant coach for both the men’s and women’s soccer programs. And the Tiger football program has seen several changes in the offseason, including new offensive coordinator Kevin Hoyng, linebackers coach Dan Bauder, who has assumed the full-time position previously occupied by Jake Bowman, class of 2008, and cornerbacks coach Jamaal Everett, class of 2014, who will serve an internship with the team.
Searches for several other positions are ongoing. Updates will be available on www.wittenbergtigers.com.
