NCAC Selects Four Tigers As Athletes Of The Week

Wittenberg senior wide receiver Brendon Cunningham (Kettering, Ohio/Fairmont) played a vital role in helping the Tigers secure a 38-20 league win over Denison on Homecoming in Springfield. He opened the scoring for Wittenberg in the first quarter with a 73-yard pass from senior quarterback Reed Florence (South Charleston, OH/Southeastern) and then added the eventual game-winning score on a 13-yard strike from Florence late in the second quarter. Cunningham, who also added an insurance score for the Tigers in the fourth, finished the game with six catches for 136 yards and three touchdowns.

Meghan Vodopich

Volleyball

Wittenberg junior setter Meghan Vodopich (Canton, Ohio/Massillon Perry) helped lead the 13th-ranked Tigers to a 3-2 record on the week as they took on three of the top-10 teams in the nation. In a 3-1 upset victory over No. 7 Mt. Union, she passed out 39 set assists and was the most consistent attacker with a hitting percentage of .418, including nine kills on just one error in 15 attempts. In 19 total sets on the week, she racked up 178 set assists, 43 digs, 36 kills, a .418 hitting percentage, six blocks (2 solo, 4 asst.) and two service aces.

Nicole Waers

Women's Golf

Wittenberg junior Nicole Waers (Canton, Ohio/Massillon Perry) was the NCAC’s top finisher at the Wittenberg Pat Clouse Invitational, played at Springfield Country Club in Ohio. Waers finished in a tie for second at the event with a two-day total of 155 (78-77). The Tigers finished third overall in the team standings with 655 strokes (314-341), behind Ithaca (627) and DePauw (639).

Jared Wissinger

Men's Golf

Wittenberg junior Jared Wissinger (Hilliard, Ohio/Darby) shot the fourth-best two-round score in school history to power the Tigers to the team title at the DePauw Small College Classic. He opened the tournament with a three-under par 68 at Deer Creek and then fired a 71 on Sunday at Twin Bridges to earn champion medalist honors at the event with 139 strokes. Wittenberg ran away with the team title at the event with a 36-hole score of 586 (290-296), which was 27 strokes better then the closest competitor.
