Philosophy of the Wittenberg Basketball Camp

"The design of our camp is focused on the teaching of the basic fundamental skills needed to learn, play and improve one's game. We believe campers should be active with sitting kept at a minimum. We have superb facilities and always assemble an experienced and skilled instructional staff, which enables us to provide an outstanding camp experience."
--Bill Brown, Wittenberg University Men's Basketball Head Coach & Camp Director

Camp Director

Bill Brown is in his 27th year as a collegiate head coach and his 37th year of coaching overall at the college level. Entering the 2013-14 season, Brown's teams at Wittenberg have compiled an overall record of 448-132 since he arrived in 1993, and Brown reached the 500-win milestone for his career early in the campaign.

Brown has more than 40 years of summer basketball camp experience, and his daily presence and involvement with campers make Brown one of the leading camp directors in the Midwest. The camp instructional staff always includes some of the best available public school coaches in the state. Assistant coaches and players from the Wittenberg program also serve as important members of the teaching staff.

Outstanding Facilities

All camp activities are conducted indoors at the Health, Physical Education, and Recreation (HPER) Center located on the Wittenberg University campus. The HPER Center includes five full courts and 22 basket areas. Three of the courts and 14 baskets are located in an air-conditioned gym. Campers also have access to the Olympic-size swimming pool in the natatorium.

Resident campers stay in Firestine Residence Hall, which is also air-conditioned. It is located approximately 75 yards from the HPER Center. Camp coaches reside in the same dormitory as campers and provide session breaks and evening supervision. Roommate assignments are made according to registration form requests. Others will be paired with campers of comparable age range.

Resident and commuter campers eat meals on a daily basis in the Center Dining Room (CDR), which is located in the university's Student Center. The CDR, which is also air-conditioned for the camper's comfort, serves meals on an all-you-can-eat and drink buffet plan. This dining facility is located only 125 yards from Firestine Hall.
