Tigers Head Tennis Coach Tyler Johnston Set To Pursue New Opportunities

Wittenberg Head Tennis Coach Tyler Johnston has decided to step down after five seasons at the helm of both the men's and women's programs. Johnston has reignited the Tiger Tennis program, improving from one win in his first season with the Wittenberg men's team to a 12-9 season in just his second season. The Wittenberg women saw steady gains, going winless in North Coast Athletic Conference action in their first two season, before jumping to a 2-2 record during the 2020-21 season.

"I want to thank President Mike Frandsen, Vice President Brian Agler, Alumni, current players, and the entire Wittenberg University community for trusting me to guide the tennis program for the last five seasons," Coach Johnston said, "While I am excited for this opportunity for personal and professional growth, I will forever cherish the memories and experience I had at this great university. My family and I will always support Wittenberg and the tennis program, and wish nothing but the best for the university moving forward."

Johnston has tutored a handful of Tigers to All-NCAC accolades, including Carli Milano and Martin Mora in his first season. Most recently, John DeVito and Jake Stockhausen earned All-NCAC doubles with Joe Patton claiming the singles nod in 2021. Kelsey Smith was tabbed as an All-NCAC singles designation in 2021, while the duo of Sydney Khosla and Paige Meyers took All-NCAC accolades on the doubles court.

"Tyler Johnston has done an amazing job building and developing our tennis program. His drive, persistence and enthusiasm is unmatched," said Vice President and Director of Athletics & Recreation Brian Agler '80, "He was a great ambassador for Wittenberg. He will be missed."

A national search for Johnston's replacement will begin immediately.
