Wittenberg Community Mourns the Loss of Kevin Karn

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio--The Wittenberg University community is mourning the loss of Kevin Karn, a member of the men's soccer program, and recent graduate of Canal Winchester High School.  Kevin graduated from CWHS on May 21 and was excited to be a part of the Tiger soccer team this August. A standout student and athlete, Kevin represented his high school and played for the FC Pride Soccer Club.

Born on June 3, 1998, Karn had a smile and presence that would light up a room. His friends and family recall his uncanny ability to make everyone feel comfortable, like he was their best friend, no matter what the social situation was.

"Once a Tiger, always a Tiger is something we talk about here at Wittenberg and is no more true than in the case of Kevin," Wittenberg Athletic Director Dr. Gary Williams said Sunday. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the Karn family as well as our own Tiger family who Kevin already made an impact with."

"As coaches, teachers and leaders, our connection with each team member is significant. Time is never the measure by which we judge the strength of those bonds. We're grateful for bringing Kevin and his family into the Wittenberg community, they will always be part of our Pride," added Head Men's Soccer Coach Dwight Burgess.

Karn was killed in a single-vehicle accident on July 14 in Amanda Township, Ohio, south of his hometown, Canal Winchester, according to the Lancaster Eagle Gazette.

Visitation hours are set for Monday, July 18 at Dwayne R. Spence Funeral Home, 650 West Waterloo Street, Canal Winchester, Ohio 43110. Visitation for the public is open from 2:00PM to 4:00PM and 6:00PM to 8:00PM.

Those who wish may donate to the BrockStrong Foundation in Kevin's memory.
